#WalkingWords with Ruth Hill -- 10:00am-12:00noon

£15

Take your writing into the outdoors with writer and environmentalist Ruth Hill. #WalkingWords explores how nature and walking can inspire and enhance your writing.

Ruth Hill is a writer, theatre maker, and educator. She is resident writer at Found Outdoors CiC where she is charting the changes in the woodland rewilding project across the course of the year. Ruth is fascinated by how we tell stories of history and the world around us, and how those stories can make us think about our power and position in the world. She has run writing workshops in schools and youth groups, care homes and dementia support groups, libraries and museums, and woodlands and fields!

Printmaking with Print [Works] Weston -- 1:00pm-4:00pm

£35

Try your hand at printmaking using the traditional techniques of dry point etching combined with a very modern medium - tetra pak cartons! The process involves scribing an image of your choice, i.e. a book character, illustration or photo, inking up the Tetra Pak plate and passing it through a press with paper to produce an etching. This is a fun but messy process, gloves and aprons will be provided but would suggest wearing old clothes just in case!

Print [works] Weston is run by print makers, Claire and Tracey. Our aim is to bring printmaking and associated art practices to the community. We run workshops, offer open access working and personal tuition in Screen print, Lino print, Dry point etching, Collagraph, Cyanotype and Monoprint in a friendly, safe and informal studio.

Poetry X Art with Suzannah V. Evans -- 4:00pm-6:00pm

£15

How might image and word fit together? What can we achieve by writing poetry about art? How might paintings, sculptures, and other artworks open up new ways of thinking about memory and experience? This workshop will take us into the imaginative space of the gallery, where we will craft poems based on visual stimulation. We will experiment with the encounter between visual and verbal, focusing on close looking and translating works of art into exciting poems. By the end, you will have a fresh perspective on poetry and art, as well as a selection of drafts and further ideas for writing.

Suzannah V. Evans is a poet and creative writing teacher based in Bristol. She is the author of Brightwork and Marine Objects / Some Language, and the editor of All Keyboards are Legitimate: Versions of Jules Laforgue. A selection of her work appears in Carcanet’s anthology New Poetries VIII. Her poetry has been broadcast on BBC Radio, performed at international festivals, and awarded a Northern Writers’ Award and the Ivan Juritz Prize for Creative Experiment. She holds a PhD in modern poetry from Durham University.

Collage Poetry with Chloe Vlahos -- 5:00pm-6:00pm

£10

Get creative with collage poetry. In this workshop lead by artist and poet Chloe Vlahos, learn how to create visual poetry pieces with repurposed materials.

Chloe Vlahos is a writer, photographer and filmmaker whose work is primarily concerned with longing, memory, and place. After growing up in South London and later moving to Paris in her early twenties, she developed a keen interest for that which occupies the ‘in-between’ space within language and landscapes. She credits her time in France as having the biggest influence on her artistic practice since this is where she discovered how poetry – in both its written and visual forms – helps us to express the ‘in-betweens’ of the human experience, and ultimately allows us to access all that is unsayable.
